Chengdu Itineraries
The best Chengdu itinerary balances essential sights with unhurried time for food, neighborhoods and local life. Use these frameworks as a starting point, then adapt them to your pace.

One day in Chengdu
With one day, resist the urge to cross the entire city. Choose either a panda-focused morning with a well-paired afternoon, or an old-downtown route centered on neighborhood life, tea, food and the river after dark.
Two days in Chengdu
- Day one: pandas in the morning, followed by a contemporary side of the city or a relaxed cultural afternoon.
- Day two: old downtown, a tea-house pause, Sichuan flavors and an evening along the Jin River.
Three days in Chengdu
Use the third day to go deeper rather than simply farther. Build it around food, archaeology, architecture, creative communities, technology, or personal encounters. This is where Chengdu begins to feel like a lived city rather than a collection of attractions.
Four days or more
Add Dujiangyan and Mount Qingcheng for water engineering and Daoist landscapes, Sanxingdui for ancient archaeology, or a carefully chosen journey toward western Sichuan. Some mountain destinations are better treated as overnight trips rather than rushed day excursions.
Three ChengduMemo route ideas
- A Pandas-tic Day: pandas paired with local highlights and a realistic city rhythm.
- Old Downtown City Walk: heritage, neighborhood life and human-scale Chengdu on foot.
- River Route: trace the relationship between water, the Land of Abundance and the city today.
